Cut-paper, or cut-out animation, is the oldest, if the not the first, animation technique. In the original technique the animator will move cut out pieces of paper under a fixed camera frame by frame. Often they will use silhouettes. Using silhouettes will hide any overlapping sections of the paper and can create the idea of three dimensional figures moving in space.
